ON HURRICANE FLORENCE: ADVISORY No. 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Philippine Embassy reiterates its advice to the Filipino communities along the path of Hurricane Florence, now with a Category 4 storm status, to undertake all necessary preparations, keep updated on the storm’s progress, and heed the warnings of local authorities as the center of the hurricane will move over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda and the Bahamas through Wednesday, 12 September 2018 and approach the coast of North Carolina or South Carolina in the hurricane watch area on Thursday and Friday, 13-14 September 2018.

The US National Hurricane Center in its latest advisory issued today, stated that Hurricane Florence is expected to re-strengthen and bring possible life-threatening storm surge along the coasts of North and South Carolina.

A storm surge watch and hurricane watch are in effect for Edisto Beach South Carolina to the North Carolina-Virginia border Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds.

There are approximately 150,000 individuals of Filipino origin residing in Virginia and the Carolinas.

The Philippine Embassy will continue to monitor developments and coordinate with the Filipino and Filipino-American communities in these areas.
